Joe Baio Wins AVS BID 2009 Award - NESAC/BIO graduate student Joe Baio won the best Biomaterial Interfaces Division student poster award at the 2009 AVS conference for his presentation on characterizing the orientation of immobilized proteins.
Surface Characterization of Biomaterials - NESAC/Bio will be running a workshop on the "Surface Characterization of Biomaterials" at the 2010 Society For Biomaterials Annual Symposium in Seattle on April 21st. For more information please visit the 2010 SFB Symposium website.
Shin Muramoto wins SIMS XVII Student Award - NESAC/BIO graduate student Shin Muramoto won a student award at the SIMS XVII conference for his presentation on ToF-SIMS depth profiling of trehalose films.

Buddy Ratner Awarded 2009 Acta Biomaterialia Gold Medal - NESAC/BIO Investigator and Founding Director Buddy Ratner is the recipient of the 2009 Acta Biomaterialia Gold Medal Award. This award recognizes excellence in the research and the practice of biomaterials.
Nicolas Vandencasteele receives Post-doctoral fellowships - NESAC/BIO post-doctoral fellow Nicolas Vandencasteele was awarded a fellowship grant from the Belgium American Education Foundation and a travel grant from the Fulbright Commission. He will be joining NESAC/BIO in September, 2009. His research at NESAC/BIO will be on characterization of DNA surfaces for microarray applications.

Dave Castner elected AVS President - NESAC/BIO Director Dave Castner has been elected President of the American Vacuum Society. He will serve a three year term as President Elect in 2009, President in 2010 and Immediate Past President in 2011.
Sirne Techane Awarded Nanotechnology IGERT Fellowship - NESAC/BIO graduate student Sirne Techance has been awarded an NSF IGERT Fellowship from the UW Center for Nanotechnology for her research on gold nanoparticles.
Tobias Weidner receives Post-doctoral fellowship - NESAC/BIO post-doctoral fellow Tobias Weidner was awarded a fellowship grant by the Deutsche Forschungs-gemeinschaft (German Science Foundation) for his research on studying peptide and protein structure at surfaces.
